Washington Square Park, Manhattan - Headshots of Emebeit

Emebeit originally auditioned for the role of Donna in my film, Mozart of Rap, but we met up again to do some headshots last week! It was a great day because since the sun was out, we had a ton of options for locations and great ways to use the light for beautiful pictures.

Emebeit Beyene is from Philadelphia and is currently residing in New York City. She is a 2010 graduate of New York University's Tisch School of the Arts where she studied at Stonestreet Studios and at the Experimental Theater Wing. During her time at ETW, she was seen in the mainstage production of Oliver! She also created a short one-woman piece, inspired by her experiences traveling, addressing her identity as an Ethiopian-American. She believes that traveling and gaining new perspectives is a key to becoming a better artist and person. She recently wrapped shooting the short film "Their Eyes Were Watching Gummy Bears", which is her first professional film right out of college, and is currently shooting a webseries developed by herself and fellow Tisch colleagues. Emebeit has worked with mentor Kamilah Forbes as assistant stage manager for Hip Hop Theater Festival's production of Ben Snyder's Rock, Paper, Scissors. She starred in the short film Saturday Morning Blues which was recently featured in the Urbanworld Film Festival and the Slam Dance Festival.

Greenwich Village, Manhattan - Headshots of Shannon

Yesterday I went up to Washington Square Park to shoot headshots of Shannon. It was a fun time, and the lighting and visuals that we captured were amazing, especially since the lighting was so perfect for the pictures, and it was windy. Unfortunately, it made Shannon's hair a bit frizzy, but the pictures came out great anyway. It was a cloudy day, which gave us very nice lighting and the wind just blew her hair which made a great effect for the pictures. Please check them out and let me know what you think!

Crown Heights - Woody - Sean John Promo

I found myself back in Brooklyn last week to shoot a photo session with Woody Fenelon again, the same guy from the "Woody Does It" commercial. We shot a whole bunch of pictures and I learned the effectiveness of off-balance photos. It's interesting how much you can learn from experience.

Harlem, New York - Modeling Photos of Carlile

Yesterday afternoon we went up to Harlem to shoot pictures for this model/actor, and got a bunch of cool looking shots. It was a beautiful, sunny day which made it difficult to shoot out in bright sunlight unfortunately, since my new ND camera filters have not come in yet. ND filters make the image darker, this way you can use the flash outdoors on bright sunny days to fill in the dark shadows. If you don't use ND filters the picture will come out way too bright. But we were able to shoot in the shadows, and the pictures came out pretty well. Have a look by clicking on the photo below.

Soho, Manhattan - Headshots of Damion Lee

We did a bunch of pictures for Damion Lee today, and I got them finished this evening. It was a really fun time and we discussed working on Mozart of Rap, and where the film is headed. Damion Lee is currently trying to get a role in a feature film coming out soon and wanted some great pictures to go along with it, so we shot these. Let me know what you think!

Damion Omar Lee born and raised in Brooklyn N.Y., and possesses the same raw, intense, resourcefulness onscreen as did the streets he grew up on. Approached by a talent agent on a New York City subway train, this opportunity landed Damion a supporting role in the 2001 feature film “Finding Forrester” starring Sean Connery and Rob Brown. With his interest in other endeavors, Damion realized in 2005 that acting was his calling; and with no formal training until recently, Lee seems to be blessed with an authenticity on film that cannot be taught, as he has managed to star in several independent films including Blueprint, where he portrays a young college student who attempts a romantic getaway outside of the city with a male love interest. The critically acclaimed ‘Blueprint’ has been screened at festivals all over the world. It’s this same fearless approach to take on any character which has gotten Damion the lead in other indie shorts and features coming out soon including ‘44’ which can be seen at the Urban World Film Festival in NYC mid-September; ‘When It Rains’ which already received rave reviews at the New York Int’l Latino Film Festival, and the highly anticipated feature film ‘True Story’ directed by Rasheed Wilds of Wildsoul Cinema which is figured to be a classic. When Damion is not acting, he spends his down time writing poetry and collaborating with a collective of other artists who have dubbed themselves as C.R.E.A.M (Creative Revolutionary Exceptional Artist Movement). Damion Omar Lee is definitely a force to be reckoned with and someone to watch for in the near future.

Soho, Manhattan - Photos of Sinorice Moss, Dion, and Adonis

Every once in a while, something interesting happens. I met Dion and Adonis on the corner of Lafayette and Prince street, and they asked me if I was a photographer as I walked by them. I stopped and turned around, wondering why. And then I looked down and remembered I was carrying my camera over my shoulder. They asked me to take a sample image of them, which I did (posted below), and told me they really liked it. Then the wide receiver for the NFL New York Giants Sinorice Moos showed up for dinner with them. I took his photo and have posted it up here. Now tomorrow we are supposed to be doing a photoshoot for NBA player Serge Ibaka because Dion and Adonis both work with Urban Elegance Media Group, where they work with pro athletes and other people to get them good photos. We'll see what happens, but for the time being, here are the photos I took of them.
